what it is

What is end-of-life companionship?

When someone is dying, the medical team cares for the body. But there's so much more happening. Fears to talk through. Stories to tell. Family members who are exhausted, or not speaking, or unsure what to say.

An end-of-life companion, sometimes called a death doula, offers non-medical support for all of that. I work alongside doctors, nurses and palliative care, never in place of them, so the person and their family feel less alone and more prepared.

"Dying is part of living. No one should have to face it frightened or alone."

how i can support you

Practical and tender, side by side

Company and conversation

Someone to sit with, talk to, or just be quiet beside. Time for the things that matter.

Life stories and legacy

Recording their voice, writing letters, gathering photos and memories to pass on.

Knowing what to expect

Gentle, plain explanations of what happens as the body changes, so the unknown feels less frightening.

Planning ahead

Talking through wishes and values, advance care planning and the practical details, so nothing important is left unsaid.

Support for the family

Helping hard conversations happen, and giving carers a chance to rest, shower or step outside.

The final days

Quiet presence at the bedside, music, readings or small rituals, and planning for who will be there.

Letters from Soft Landing

Occasional reflections, resources and small rituals for living, loving and saying goodbye.

I acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians. The land where I live and work is Darug Country — sovereignty was never ceded. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to all First Nations people who carry their own grief and loss.
